Health, Safety & Environment Section Head

Supervise the execution of the department’s objectives, initiatives, plans, policies and procedures. Support in developing the annual budget, including Financial and Human Resources requirements. Supervise implementation of inspections and audits as per plan across SANS facilities and ensure that the same is also attended by Safety Specialists and Officers. Direct team to develop reports indicating the results of all health and safety checks conducted on SANS facilities and provide recommendations for improvement / remedial action as needed. Drive team to conduct awareness sessions to maximize awareness on health and safety activities and issue safety instructions when necessary to resolve safety violations. Guide team in developing reports including the incidents that occurred, the facility in which the incident occurred and record the time of the incident. Propose methods to manage potential hazardous conditions and practices in systems, equipment, facilities or processes. Ensure that all facilities are complying with all health and safety regulations and OHSAS requirements. Support in monitoring day-to-day activities to ensure compliance with stipulated policies and procedures. Participate in on-the-job training, mentoring, and coaching of subordinates. Conduct annual performance appraisal of direct subordinates.
