Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible to provide comprehensive health services to DOS, DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. The MLT performs lab tests and procedures, mostly comprising of microscopic, bacteriological, hematologic, immunologic, and chemical diagnostic analyses on samples of tissue, blood, urine, stool, synovial fluid and semen. The position is on a Locum rotation, 30 days active and 120 days inactive.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and process biological specimens for laboratory testing
  • Conduct routine and specialized tests in hematology, microbiology, chemistry, and blood bank
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot any technical issues
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean laboratory environment
  • Record and report test results accurately and in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with pathologists and other medical staff to interpret results and ensure quality patient care
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Actively participates in Mass Casualty exercises and events
  • Completes required organizational compliance education

Qualifications

  • Current Certification with a nationally recognized registry such a MT (ASCP) or home country equivalent
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Experience on a military site working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years recent experience as Medical Laboratory Technician including 6 months within the last year
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
  • Degree in medical laboratory technology or related field scientific field with an approved laboratory training program, or home country equivalent
  • Must be able to relocate to Balad, Iraq
  • A valid passport from country of record is required
