Job Description

Our client, a pioneering aerospace engineering firm at the forefront of innovation, is seeking an exceptional Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their fully remote team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking projects from the comfort of your home office, impacting the future of flight. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in mechanical design, particularly within the aerospace sector, coupled with a strong proficiency in CAD software and a deep understanding of material science and manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and analyzing complex mechanical systems and components for aircraft and spacecraft. This role demands a high degree of technical expertise, creativity, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a global, distributed team. You will play a key role in all phases of the design lifecycle, from initial concept development through to detailed design, simulation, and verification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of complex aerospace systems and components, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings using industry-leading software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Perform advanced stress analysis, thermal analysis, and dynamic simulations using FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) to validate designs.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, materials scientists, and manufacturing engineers, in a remote environment.
  • Define technical requirements and specifications for mechanical systems and sub-systems.
  • Oversee the prototyping and testing phases of mechanical designs, analyzing results and iterating on designs as needed.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant aerospace industry standards (e.g., FAA, EASA, MIL-SPEC).
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior mechanical design engineers within the remote team.
  • Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, and design methodologies to enhance product performance.
  • Generate comprehensive design documentation, including reports, specifications, and presentations.
  • Effectively communicate design concepts, progress, and challenges to project stakeholders through virtual meetings and collaboration platforms.
  • Maintain meticulous records of design activities and technical decisions.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a significant portion dedicated to the aerospace industry.
  • Proven experience with advanced CAD and FEA software.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities for remote collaboration.
