Biomedical Engineer
Job Description
The Biomedical Engineer provides specialized support to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) Program Office. This role will focus on medical device safety, recall management, hazard investigations, and patient safety compliance, ensuring that VHA medical equipment programs operate safely, reliably, and in accordance with federal and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee medical device recall programs and safety alert systems
- Conduct medical device hazard investigations and implement corrective actions
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and documentation to support patient safety initiatives
- Collaborate with field-based HTM personnel and clinical staff
- Support biomedical equipment management programs for compliance
- Provide expertise on computer-based medical systems, networking, and cybersecurity
- Maintain awareness of emerging medical device technologies and regulatory changes
- Assist in preparing reports and recommendations for program leadership
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in biomedical engineering, clinical engineering, or healthcare technology management
- Demonstrated competency in managing medical device recall programs
- Knowledge of computer-based medical systems, networking protocols, and cybersecurity
