Resident Engineer & Contract Administrator
Job Description
The Resident Engineer & Contract Administrator represents the Consulting Engineer on-site and is responsible for supervising construction works and administering the construction contract in accordance with the Conditions of Contract (e.g., FIDIC).
Responsibilities
- Act as the Engineer’s Representative in accordance with the Conditions of Contract
- Supervise construction activities to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications
- Coordinate between the Client, Contractor, design office, and stakeholders
- Review and recommend approval of shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements
- Conduct regular site inspections and issue site reports
- Monitor construction progress against the approved program
- Identify delays or risks and recommend mitigation measures
- Ensure implementation of HSE standards
- Oversee testing and commissioning activities
- Manage site supervision staff
- Administer the construction contract impartially
- Issue Engineer’s Instructions and clarify technical queries (RFIs)
- Review, assess, and recommend Interim Payment Certificates, Variations, and EOT claims
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant engineering discipline
- Professional registration (e.g., PE, CEng, PrEng, or equivalent) preferred
- 20 years’ experience in construction supervision within a consulting engineering environment
- Demonstrated experience administering FIDIC-based contracts
