Professor of Practice (open to Tenure Track Assistant Professor)
Job Description
The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) of the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture (MSFEA) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a full-time position at one of the following ranks: Professor of Practice, or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, in the area of Mechanical Design. We seek an accomplished practitioner with deep, hands-on experience developing complex, high-performance mechanical systems at scale (e.g., aerospace actuation/landing gear, automotive drivetrains, biomedical devices/robotics, or precision consumer electromechanical assemblies). The successful candidate must hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field; or a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred; and required for the tenure-track rank). The candidate should have evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate level or mentorship in a professional setting. The applicant to the Professor of Practice position should have 10+ years of progressively responsible industry design experience. For the tenure-track position, the candidate must demonstrate potential for an impactful research program in design, materials, and/or manufacturing. The candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor student teams, and strengthen the design spine across the undergraduate curriculum. He/She must develop an independent, externally visible research agenda and pursue competitive funding. Consideration of applications will continue until the position is filled. Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical design
- Mentor student teams

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred and required for tenure-track)
- 10+ years of industry design experience for Professor of Practice
- Evidence of effective teaching or mentorship
